Join our growing team in Red Deer County! Monday–Friday work combining fleet maintenance, repairs, trailer hauling and shop duties. Journeyperson certification and driver’s license required.
Job description
Total Group of Companies is looking for a Journeyman Automotive Mechanic to join our growing team at our Red Deer County shop.
Our light-duty fleet consists of approximately 50 vehicles, primarily Ford, Dodge/Ram and Chevrolet half-ton and one-ton trucks, along with smaller SUVs. This position will support fleet maintenance, inspections, diagnostics and repairs, as well as trailer maintenance and general shop operations.
This role will initially include a mix of mechanical work and other shop duties. While our fleet and operations are growing quickly, we do not currently have enough mechanical work to fill every workday. Some days may primarily involve moving equipment, hauling trailers and assisting the shop team. We anticipate the mechanical workload increasing as our operations expand.
This is a good fit for someone who wants to work locally on a Monday–Friday schedule, enjoys variety throughout the day and is comfortable contributing wherever the team needs support.
Daily tasks and activities include, but are not limited to:
Perform scheduled fleet maintenance, servicing and vehicle inspections.
Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and complete repairs within your qualifications.
Identify maintenance needs and communicate repair priorities, required parts and vehicle downtime.
Complete trailer inspections, maintenance and repairs.
Perform seasonal tire swaps and tire maintenance as needed.
Maintain accurate service records and document completed work and outstanding deficiencies.
Safely connect, disconnect, maneuver and haul trailers, including 40-foot, gooseneck and standard pull-type trailers.
Move vehicles and equipment and assist with loading, unloading and preparing equipment for jobs.
Assist with general shop duties, organization and housekeeping.
Work with the shop team to keep vehicles and equipment safe, maintained and ready for use.
The ideal candidate would possess the following traits:
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
Flexibility and willingness to take on a variety of tasks.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication skills and a practical approach to problem-solving.
Attention to detail and pride in completing work properly.
A safety-driven approach to vehicle repairs, equipment handling and towing.
A dependable, cooperative attitude.
Job requirements
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
Must hold a valid driver’s license appropriate for operating company vehicles and hauling trailers, and be able to provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
Hold a valid Journeyperson certification as an Automotive Service Technician.
Have experience maintaining, diagnosing and repairing light-duty trucks and SUVs.
Be familiar with Ford, Dodge/Ram and Chevrolet vehicles.
Be comfortable performing trailer maintenance and tire swaps.
Have demonstrated experience connecting, backing and hauling trailers, including 40-foot, gooseneck and standard pull-type trailers.
Be comfortable with a position that includes general shop duties and equipment movement alongside mechanical work.
Be able to safely perform the physical duties associated with vehicle maintenance and shop operations.
Have reliable transportation to our Red Deer County shop.
Be authorized to work in Canada.
Fleet maintenance experience would be considered an asset.
